The functions of the work head of the Ambion SMT machine mainly include picking up components, correcting positions, placing components, and performing safety protection. ‌

‌Pick up components‌: The work head of the SMT machine picks up components by vacuum adsorption to ensure that the components can be stably absorbed‌. ‌Correction of position‌: After the work head absorbs the components, the position of the components is corrected by the correction system to ensure that the components can be accurately placed in the specified position‌. ‌Placing components‌: After position correction, the work head places the components on the preset pads to complete the SMT process‌. ‌Safety protection‌: When the work head performs large-scale reciprocating motion, the equipment will automatically reduce speed for protection to prevent operator injury or equipment damage‌. ‌Structure and working principle of the work head ‌Structure‌: The work head of the SMT machine usually includes a nozzle, a positioning claw, a positioning table, and a Z-axis, θ-angle motion system and other components. The early work head used a mechanical centering mechanism, while the modern work head mostly uses optical centering to improve the speed and accuracy of SMT‌. ‌ ‌Working principle‌: The work head picks up the component through vacuum adsorption, then corrects the position of the component through the correction system, and finally places the component on the specified position. The whole process realizes positioning and placement through a series of conversions between coordinate systems‌.


Workflow of the placement machine


Feeding system‌: Electronic components are supplied to the equipment through the feeder‌.


Feeding and identification‌: The vacuum suction nozzle on the work head picks up the component at the feeding position, and identifies the type and direction of the component through the camera‌.


Turnabout rotation‌: The sucked component is moved to the placement position after the turret rotates‌.


Position adjustment‌: During the rotation of the turret, the position and direction of the component are adjusted‌.


Feeding components‌: Place the adjusted components on the circuit board‌.


Repeat steps‌: Repeat the above steps until all the electronic components to be mounted have been placed‌.
