X-RAY is a technology that uses the penetrating power of X-rays to perform non-destructive testing on the internal structure of PCBA. SMT X-RAY mainly has two types: two-dimensional X-RAY and three-dimensional X-RAY.
Two-dimensional X-RAY can only provide a positive view from top to bottom, which is suitable for basic defect detection, such as checking solder joint thickness, shape and mass density distribution. Three-dimensional X-RAY can perform three-dimensional imaging reconstruction, using X-ray tomography, X-ray layering or computed tomography (CT) to obtain a complete three-dimensional effect. This type of X-RAY is suitable for more complex detection needs, such as a comprehensive analysis of BGA soldering defects, but the detection speed is slow and the cost is high.
In addition, according to different usage scenarios, X-RAY detection equipment can also be divided into offline and online types. Offline X-RAY requires manual operation to pick up and place materials and scan and label, while online X-RAY has functions such as automatic scanning, labeling, and sorting defective products, which can maximize work efficiency and save labor.
The main functions of X-RAY equipment include solder joint detection, component detection, PCB board detection, and package detection. X-RAY equipment can detect the position, size, and integrity of solder joints through the penetration of X-rays to ensure the quality of welding.
In SMT production, X-RAY equipment is mainly used to detect hidden solder joints, such as the welding quality of components such as BGA and CSP. These solder joints are hidden and cannot be directly observed by the naked eye or traditional AOI equipment. X-RAY equipment can see through these hidden solder joints to ensure that there are no welding defects such as cold solder joints and bridging.
