What is an SMT machine?

SMT machines refer to equipment used for surface mount technology (SMT). ‌ These devices are mainly used to mount pinless or short-lead surface mount components (SMC/SMD, called chip components in Chinese) on the surface of printed circuit boards (PCB) or other substrates, and perform soldering and assembly by reflow soldering or dip soldering. ‌

How many types of SMT machines are there?

SMT machines mainly include the following categories:

SMT Board loading machine

The main function of the board loading machine is to automatically send the PCB board to the SMT placement machine, which is the starting point of the SMT production line. ‌ It automatically sends the PCB to the SMT placement machine by receiving the board request signal from the lower computer, effectively saving labor costs and improving production line efficiency and production quality. ‌

The working principle of the board loading machine is to transfer the PCB boards stored in the turnover box to the production line one by one through automatic lifting, automatic counting, automatic feeding and unloading frames and fault alarm functions. It uses the transmission track to send the PCB board to the solder paste printer for the next step of processing. ‌

SMT Docking Station:

It is an automated equipment used in SMT production lines, mainly used to transfer PCB boards and realize automated connection of production lines. ‌ It transports PCB boards to different production equipment through conveyor belts, and is commonly seen in the transmission process before reflow soldering and placement machines. Specifically, reflow soldering is to achieve the purpose of soldering SMD (surface mount device) by causing the gel-like flux to physically react under a certain high-temperature airflow through the action of hot air flow on the solder joints‌ ‌.

SMT AOI Inspection equipment‌:

(such as AOI optical inspection equipment): ‌SMT AOI (Automated Optical Inspection) is an inspection technology based on optical principles, which is used to detect various defects on PCB (printed circuit board). ‌ AOI technology uses high-resolution cameras or optical sensors to capture images of PCBs, and then uses complex image processing algorithms to identify and mark defects, thereby improving production efficiency and product quality. ‌

The working principle of AOI technology mainly includes three steps: image acquisition, image processing, and defect recognition. First, the AOI equipment uses high-resolution cameras or optical sensors to capture images of PCBs to obtain clear PCB images. Then, these images are transmitted to the image processing system for analysis and processing, including enhancement, filtering, binarization and other operations to highlight the defect characteristics. Finally, based on these processed images, the AOI system uses advanced algorithms and pattern recognition technology to identify and classify defects. ‌
